The Problem With Udom Emmanuel, Akpabio’s Puppet.

26 Jul
By Clayton Bane Udoh

Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed. – Mahatma Gandhi

You could just hear the whispers of people’s minds, whispers that are so loaded with greed and Neanderthal selfishness that Akwa Ibom State truly needs deliverance from the actors in question.

People’s minds running like ……. if only Akpabio could stay long enough for me to complete roofing that house at Asong Ama estate! I had more cars to buy and now Akpabio is leaving! Oh my goodness, eight years is up and this regime is over and I still need more money! How can we do the impossible of extending our influence even if Akpabio is leaving? Then in comes the solution of a PuppetMaster called Udom Emmanuel.

Udom Emmanuel Akwa Ibom State SSG

People’s brains are now working out advance Calculus; I use to polish Commissioner Enoidem’s shoes and if Udom is in power he must listen to Enoidem, so therefore I will have a chance at survival. My name is so and so and I was the media slave for Governor Akpabio , I insulted everybody I could lay my hands on but if Udom becomes Governor there will be a chance for me to continue with behavior that I knew was stupid at the least! I went after Diaspora with insults and rudeness to impress Aniekan Umanah and the Governor and he gave me crumbs that were so satisfying and now this regime is up. Can I have some more time in the name of Udom?

No, your time is up and your master does not give a damn about you, he has more things to worry about like his underground vault of money!

In the past I wrote an article about what is the greatest punishment of most politicians and I stated that it is “Time”. Eight years looked like a long time for the party to continue but eight years is up and suddenly the looters of the state have discovered that they need more time to continue what they always did and now their new food coupon is called Udom Emmanuel.

So apart from the number of Leeches and Parasites he is about to inherit from Akpabio what else is wrong with Udom Emmanuel ?

Udom Emmanuel’s case first starts with his sponsor’s problem that will be his manual for operation.

  1. This is the first regime in the history of Akwa Ibom State that has a blatant disregard for the sanctity of human life (Killing people’s Wives, Mothers, dragging people out of church and killing them and the Chief Security Officer of the state declaring death to all electoral contestants that are not hand-picked). It is a long story that ends with a state in which people are afraid to even state the obvious. A state in which people live in fear. The state sponsored terror led to the emergence of copy cats that have plunged the state into more chaos and killings then the fake attempts of “Law Enforcement” to stem the copy cats that imitated what the state introduced in the first place etc.
  2. The first regime in history that went after elders with a vengeance, insulting Don Etiebiet, Sending Dr Ime Umanah on exile, Elder Ukpanah shot to pieces and his son locked in custody for fear of evidence leaking. For this regime elders who refuse to get on their knees have been taught a lesson. Forget the Annang identity crap also because it does not save you from being marked for destruction as you can see from the examples above.
  3. The first regime whose major modus operandi was character assassination and defamation of all those who had anything to say that was interpreted as criticism or was interpreted as confrontation. A smiling governor who secretly encouraged this among his subjects and called for the most brutal treatment of his so called enemies because he has the monopoly on communication for Akwa Ibom State.
  4. The first regime that destroyed the unity of Diaspora because of the incredibly extreme need and desire to be worshipped by all and sundry. Diaspora looked a bit too sophisticated and knowledgeable for this regime’s liking and the fact of the matter was that the regime alone must always be in the spotlight. So a lot of the undesirables in Diaspora where recruited to bring disharmony and disunity in Diaspora. From the creation of the criminal organization, like AIDN to the structure of Diaspora spying on itself. Tribal politics was thrown into the mix to create the perfect storm. Government officials were instructed to insult and defame and degrade and embarrass diaspora at the very hint that they have refused to kneel for the almighty regime. Every, single indignation, was executed by the Akpabio government down to not even having the courtesy to redeem financial  pledges it made to AKISAN in  conventions they attended (So much power and cannot even redeem financial pledges because AKISAN was infiltrated by puppets).
  5. The first regime in history to abuse the youth and thumb their noses at the youth and recruit them for slave labor. The youth of Akwa Ibom State were only good for money dispensed in halls leading to stampedes and micro bank schemes that involved hard labor – Hard labor that they would not allow their own children to do. Now that they have ensured that the youth is desperate and hungry, it produces an army of political soldiers that will do anybody’s biddings for crumbs.
  6. The first administration in the history of Akwa Ibom State to make Intellectual Property theft and Nepotism standardized across the ranks and files of the administration.
  7. The first Administration in the history of Akwa Ibom State that has a chip on their shoulders as far as journalism and journalist are concerned. For the first time we hear stories of raiding of newspaper companies, getting members of the fifth estate arrested, beating journalist to pulp. Journalist being manhandled and intimidated .A total war against Journalism that is not state controlled and any other truth telling apparatus.
  8. This will also be the first administration in the history of Akwa Ibom State to short circuit the electoral process to install an Ideological dynasty.

I can go on and on but let’s connect the dots about Udom based on the points above;

First lie being sold to the people; he refused the position of Central Bank Governor to become SSG. This is the glamorous hero story being used to depict this man as being ready to give up stuff like Jesus Christ on the cross. The problem with the story is that there are far more qualified people in Nigeria to fill that seat. There is no evidence to prove that he was offered this position by Jonathan Goodluck.

Second lie being told to the public is that Udom’s administration will stop corruption instantly. They childishly use the fact that the present Governor is very generous and the state does not need that anymore. That’s a Cock and Bull story because the generous dash money from the Governor comprises of 0.001% of the total revenue of the Coffers. There is the other money, we should worry about that disappears, that has nothing to do with money dashed to crumb eaters.  The sell point is that he is an auditor by profession and that in the same vein he will not give a penny to anyone. There are some lies that is good to tell five year old kids and this particular lie is being peddled by the very people who have financially rip the state of everything.

Udom is not a career politician; this is true. However there is no research/documentation  in the world that proves a white collar worker makes a better leader than a career politician.

Also there is a danger when a neophyte like Udom just walks into the arena as a sponsored candidate with no knowledge of the political landscape. There will be an agreement on what he must do “As payment for being installed”. He has no knowledge of the fact that he is being played as a pawn because he is all excited with being able to rub shoulders with “Governor” .Hence his administration will be a continuation of the vices I have described.

Udom is not a decent man and here is the reason why.

Umanah Okon Umanah was removed from office on allegations that he started his campaign to be the Governor of Akwa Ibom State way too early for comfort.  However, I do not remember him declaring his gubernatorial ambitions anywhere.

Hon Bassey Albert as a very powerful Motivator and Organizer was invited to a secret meeting that involved the Governor giving out strategies to hand pick a Gubernatorial candidate. There, Hon. Bassey Albert told him clearly, to get his hands off the electoral process and not pencil a candidate into power, let the elections be free and fair. The Governor got angry and created the cabinet shuffle to get rid of the Hon Bassey Albert. Now if Udom was a decent man, based on these stories, he would have said to the Governor, “Your Excellency, based on how these individuals were ousted out of office, please do not start a campaign on my behalf until I resign my post and declare my candidature”. Instead he is so comfortable with the Governor cheating with the process on his behalf.  Now Uyo town is full of the local posters with the bush term “Udomestication”.

Nothing new just the same tactics like the spread of other funny words like “Akpabioism”.

I mean Udom leaves a lot to be desired as a former Zenith Bank Exco and PriceWaterhouseCooper Operative if he insists on campaigning while still in office and using the bush technicality, to explain that he has not declared anything, hence we should ignore all campaigns done on his behalf. For a banker he is not that law abiding as alleged. He is another megalomaniac that thinks he deserves special treatment while others were ousted on technicalities he is violating himself.

He has also relied on the bush man explanation that those campaigning on his behalf are doing it independently and the question is, “Should I force them to stop speaking freely?” How can you even stop them when they are sponsored from Hilltop Mansion is what you should rather say!

Well it is easy to deal with that, that’s why Oyinbo declares at the end of every political message,” This is so and so and I approve of this message!” You do not need to give such clarification anyway because I enjoy picturing Udom based on Aniekeme Finbarr’s analogy of him being a Mango tree with all the flies buzzing around it. That’s what happens when you leave your high powered financial world and join ranks with sycophants. You could be compared with a Hibiscus flower and Emmanuel Nicholas will merge your name with bible verses thereby creating the need for another bible version (Udom Emmanuel Version). Watch out for his next praise and worship pieces because he needs spare parts for that his Range Rover.

Udom is an extension of this government, with the pitiful publicity stunts of donating chairs to Primary schools. No need for the publicity, just donate them. You always see an Akpabio politician standing in front of a few bags of rice to be given to four poor people with the state sponsored Media all over the place, (like the poor people were chosen by lottery) and that has been the hallmark of Akpabioism and the promise of respite that never came. After months of unpaid salaries your bet is as good as mine about the true state of the masses.

Look,” Kpomo no get advert but it sells more than indomie!”

They can advertise Udom using the State’s money, day and night. Yep we will see the Neanderthal Udomistication, Udomific, Udomation etc. However this election does not belong to Godswill Obot Akpabio or Udom Emmanuel , it belongs to the youth and people of Akwa Ibom State.

Let me remind the youth ,there are fine roads but beware of the fact that if things continue the way they are going ,you will never have a car to drive on those roads, you will spend your life praising fine roads. Ibom Power plant is just there for selling electricity for Governor’s pockets, for youth like you, plan for a Generator and borehole.

Governor built Le Meridien abi? Let’s see the youth go and buy drinks there and relax. Banquet Hall is beautiful and I bet that beauty is all you need to be able to survive in the kind of poverty we are seeing back home. Has the youth been able to squeeze into the Civil Service yet as promised? 31 industries ? Something ?

True philanthropist, like the Hon Bassey Albert knows about the plight of the youth and are working tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of the youth. That’s why when the PDP National Chairman came to Akwa Ibom State the youth at the airport took off the crappy Udom t-shirts and revealed the true people’s champion underneath. To hell with the 3,000 Naira you gave them to wear the t-shirts (Equivalent of $12). Is that what you think the youth of Akwa Ibom State are worth?

Udom thought you guys are worth $12 to wear his t-shirts and stand in the Airport in the sun. Then Governor will wave at his t-shirt wearing slaves with the National Chairman and then move into the air-conditioned lounge while you guys remain in the sun.

Udom is the extension of that system and his own will be worst. His secret motto is,” Support me while you die of hunger”. “Support me because Governor is my Father”. “Support me because Uyo is beautiful”.

Udom’s government infested campaign system is so crappy that supporting it will lead to another name rush. It was said that in this last regime marrying an “Akpabio” family member was the real deal to escape from hunger, this time marrying anybody with the surname “Emmanuel” will be hot !

Right now let’s not deceive ourselves. There are only two men that when you meet them you feel the motivation and hope for a better future and that is Hon Bassey Albert and Hon Umanah Okon Umanah.

Get ready for another long, hard eight years of an Akpabio remote controlled Udom. He is planning to bring low paying assembly line slavery jobs to Uyo in the name of industry; just like China. Uyo and the state will have nice roads and great buildings while the masses are broke. Scared and broke.

He will award a lot of contracts and they will divide the cash among themselves and there will be a lot of underground business (He has already started with the campaign posters from outside the state). Contracts will be completed by Oyinbo and Yoruba and Igbo people – close affiliates. Meanwhile the indigenes will be totally destroyed with lack of resources and tribal conflict and unrest. When he is done, Udom will choose his successor and also seizes the senate seat from some unfortunate region in good measure.

Are you guys not tired? You are not tired of being scared and broke? That’s ok, I will remind you that I told you so !

Akpabio Needs To Make Peace With His Enemies.

7 Jul

By Asuquo Nyong Ette

“He should try to reach out personally to those whom he has hurt ( or even hurt him), make a time to wine and dine with them”

Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State Governor.

Gov Akpabio has barely nine months to vacate the Hilltop Mansion. He might be painting a very horrendous picture of himself in his last lap of his administration. This should be a period of recompense, reparation and restitution; not vendetta!Akpabio‘s advisers are not doing him any justice by trying to make him look very bad at this time of his “good bye to all that”. If after seven years of Thomas purported vituperation and ‘mutiny’ , nothing happened to him, is this the time for payback?

He should try to reach out personally to those whom he has hurt ( or even hurt him), make a time to wine and dine with them. It is no longer time for his man’s Friday to take the front burner. Sycophancy should be trashed by now. Soon he will be an ordinary person, apart from his bullet proof cars, his security will be trimmed, SSS and the dark glasses boys will no longer walk beside his car. It is time for his critics too to shield swords!

But one problem is, his imposition agenda would not let this happen! Even if it is Akpbio’s mother that will take over from him, she will not take instruction from Akpabio after six months! During the first three years of his emergence, I was his big fan! I lauded his generosity and pragmatism. I turned one of his critics when paranoid sycophants turned his administration into money making venture, snitching, blackmailing, spying and even killing sometimes, oblivious of his thoughts. Today what I’m I doing? Watching with my Ishiewu! Of course, there is God oohhhh!! #FreeThomasThomasNow!

Threat to Akpabio’s Life: Dr. Ime Umanah Wins Again.

6 Jul

BY NDON ASIAN

The Akwa Ibom State Government found itself at a cross road in the ongoing trial of Dr. Ime Sampson Umanah as Hon. Justice Ifiok Ukana ruled to reject the statement of the first accused person in the trial within trial. This is the second time that the same statement has been ruled upon and marked “rejected” in a second trial within trial.

Akpabio and Ime Umanah.

The first was by the Honourable State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Idongesit Ntem Isua, whose earlier ruling has now been vindicated. Hon. Justice Ukana in a detailed and very well considered ruling captured every argument, evidence led, cross examination and important issues relevant to arriving at the conclusion in the mini-trial. Much of what rendered the case of the state against Ime Umanah and Ikemesit Iyire in the trial within trial hopelessly doomed included evidence of what transpired at the place of arrest of DW 1 (Mr. Ikemesit Iyire) before the departure from Ikot Ekpene to Uyo and inside the bus, which were not challenged nor contradicted.

It is instructive to observe that throughout the trial within trial the state either failed or neglected to have any of the operatives who effected the arrest of the first accused testify as one of its witnesses.

Again, the Court noted that the only version of event which transpired before and after DW1 was taken before the state Director of SSS is that of DW1, concluding that the state failed to cross-examine DW1 in respect of his narration of the event, that is the meeting with the Director. “The prosecution is divided as to whether the two pages of the statement are in the same ink. There is no evidence from the prosecution particularly PW1 (Uche Nwokolo) who said he supervised the taking of the statement that as the statement was being written by DW1 he encountered problem with the writing material he was using.

That evidence should have come from him but he did not offer any such explanation”, the Court pointed out on the issue of different shades of ink on the two pages of the alleged confessional. On the mutilated date on the confessional statement form signed by PW 3 (DSP Moses Eno), the Court had the following to say, “I have looked at the said confessional statement form. Directly after PW3 signature is his rank DSP next to it is the mutilated date. It shows a superimposition of 5 on 3 with 2 in front of 5 to achieve 25.

Thereafter you find a doctoring of 0 to 1 with another 1 in front obviously to change 11 to 10, all to present to this Court 25/10/2010 as against 3/11/2010. I have said that every document speaks for itself. What the confessional statement form has spoken with respect to the date written by PW3 is that it is mutilated, changed from 3/11/2010 to 25/10/2010”. And for the second time PW3 was said not to be a truthful witness. “Using this to assess the evidence of PW3 is without wasting words, is to say that PW3 is not a witness of truth. I cannot believe him”, the Court noted.

On the urge by lead defense counsel, Samuel Ikpo Esq. that the Court should expunge the evidence of Uche Nwokolo from the record of proceedings in the trial within trial, Justice Ukana ruled that “PW1 was listed as a witness in the main trial to that extent he could be accommodated in the trial within a trial. However given his reaction to the statement filed along with the notice of additional evidence on 12/7/2013 where PW1 distanced himself from the statement credited to him PW1 cannot be the person through whom any document considered fit can be admitted as exhibit in the main trial”. In the end the Court held that, “Arising from the totality of the foregoing I hold that the statement of the 1st accused person who is DW1 in this trial which statement is dated 25/10/2010 was not voluntary. It was a product of inducement. If the statement of 25/10/2010 is not voluntary, the confessional statement form cannot validate it and cloth it with a toga of voluntariness given its own problem.

Consequently the statement credited to the 1st accused and dated 25/10/2010 and the confessional statement form shall both be marked rejected”. The ruling has not only laid to rest the controversy which surrounded the statement but has additionally limited the options of the state to four. The state may proceed to appeal in what may certainly amount to an exercise in delay and waste of time or it may continue into the main trial without any exhibit to found a conviction.

The state may also wish, as a face saving measure, to enter a nully prosecui through the Attorney General, to discontinue the case or commence the trial afresh in another Court, but this option may be impossible to explain to Court why there should be no end to litigation. Speaking shortly after the ruling one Daniel Uko from Abak among the many consistent faces that had followed this trial who spoke with Weekly Insight praised the boldness and forthrightness of the Judge whom he described as “very intelligent and acting without fear or favour”. Uko also praised the defense team particularly Samuel Ikpo Esq. and wondered why the government should not read “the handwriting on the wall and save itself from the embarrassment of losing after this many years in court”, to withdraw. The state was represented by Mary Okobo (Mrs) while Samuel Ikpo Esq led a team of seven layers for the defense.

AKPABIO & THE HUNGRY ABAK BOYS.

6 Jul

By Clayton Udoh.

Godswill Obot Akpabio

Nobody had the guts to oppose Akpabio, everything he said or did was law , so what is his reason for not building one single viable project in Abak?  The people of Abak are so scared that they will thank those that killed their loved ones , so let people like me ask,” WHAT DID AKPABIO BUILD IN ABAK?”Airport ? Seaport? Stadium ? University ? Federal Polytechnic ? Industry?
Now that 2014  has reached the half year mark and we are going to 2015 . Let Godswill Akpabio show me one solid project he did for Abak.
I am fucking pissed off and really really angry. Enugu boys here in Phoenix, Arizona are spending money like water and enjoying their life courtesy of Unoma Akpabio and my question is simple: minus Aniekan Umanah and Enoidem and a few crumb eaters who has Akpabio really empowered in the Abak axis ? By the way Enoidem is not from Abak!
We hear about Onofiok Luke and others he has empowered and lifted up and other numerous Ibibio boys ( interesting that Ibibio has nothing good to say about Akpabio after the fact).
Where are all the Abak boys who use to fight me over rice and crumbs they were given ? They formed fictitious stories about me , photoshopped my pictures and hacked into my email accounts and other private property .  Have they seen now that all I said was correct and Akpabio did nothing for Abak and rather came and took the Senate seat from slugs like you?
All that a tout from Abak understands is money that is given to them to put in their pockets while the rest of the state is being developed .
Some of you God forsaken Abak people even combined with Essien Ndueso and Anieite Ekong and others to try and destroy me . All I am asking  today is a simple question, what was created for Abak? Millennium Hospital?  The new Hilton which is to be built ? E-Library ? Ibom Power Plant?  Le Meridien ?
You thought that it was OK? to run Dr Ime Umanah into exile so show me what was built in Abak!!!!!!!!!!!.
At this point Abak is the laughing stock of Annang.
In a million years ABAK can never dream of taking a Senate seat from Ikot Ekpene-Obot Akara-Essien Udim axis .
When touts represent a place what do we think will happen ? You guys want money right?
Money finishes , project lasts for ages ,so what project did he do in Abak that can employ people like at least the Airport ?
Look my life is good enough , no matter what sycophants like most of you did to destroy me . In the end , I could have said , to hell with Abak” and enjoy my life in the USA. I cannot do that because Abak is my ancestral land and the roots of my origin . However when I think of Abak , it makes me real sad because no Governor has ever executed a Major project in Abak since the inception of Akwa Ibom State.
Nonetheless, how can any person take Abak serious when they will take lunch with the killer of their sons and daughters just for crumb money?
If there is a way , they should kill Idiongo Clayton Udoh for talking nonsense against Governor or kill Dr Ime Umanah and destroy all resistance against Governor, kill them all and then my reply would be,” After you sang and danced for him what major projects did he establish in Abak?”
You guys are ready to die for Akpabio and kill everybody on his behalf and I ask when you kill take that blood and sprinkle it on the major project Akpabio built for Abak.
Tell me it will be an Ibibio governor that will endorse a major project for Abak like the ones in the past have done ? Right?
The wisdom of collecting money to put in your pocket because of hunger is one thing , the wisdom of holding your dignity so that someone does not take you for granted is another!
The next governor who  will be Ibibio will be very busy but nobody will take Abak that is full of sycophancy with political praise and worship seriously.
Abak is yet to have a governor who brought something as close as Alscon that was built in Ikot Abasi to Abak.
In fact thank your God, I am not Akpabio because I would have taken the turn for House of Representative and given it to my Nephew since you guys are such cowards and full to the brim with stupidity.
I am speaking loudly to both the Witches  and wizards in Diaspora and the homefront . The uneducated baboons that have never taken time to study how governments work and therefore want a King or a one party system . After you destroyed all resistance to the present administration like in the proverb called Abak what were you left with?
A government that ignored you because it knew it could get support from you even if they killed all of your most valuable citizens ! They do not even need to lift a finger because you would kill them yourselves !

Another Lamentation from AIDN Scammed Victim ~ Patriotism turns to Regret.

“If you think that Akwa Ibom people should just forget about seeking justice the respectful way and continue to be ignored by their rulers (because someone has built highway overpasses), then get ready for even greater shocking behavior. “………

Clement Ikpatt

There is a famous story. The crab was telling its kids to walk straight . Then the child replied ,” Mommy could you walk for us to see ?” Then the Mommy crab said, ” Alright and please take a lesson from my example! ” then she began to walk sideways and exclaimed , ” I cannot believe what is happening!” Then walked sideways straight into her hole .

Respect is a two way street and being an elder is not a license for wayward behavior. Now that corruption and criminal behavior has become a way of life ,the abuse of power and the institutionalization of sycophancy. Some of us will push the system to equilibrium by refusing  to think like goats.

A bird said to the fellow bird ,” As hunters have learnt to shoot without missing ,so have I learnt to fly without perching”  . As elders have decided to sell their souls and abuse their power without conscience ,so have we learnt to call them out without blinking.

In Diaspora here there are two schools of thought. Elders are to be respected no matter the despicable behavior they exhibit and there is another in which if elders cannot respect themselves then we shall call them out.

Aniekan Umanah, AKS Info Commissioner

However for the uneducated moron ,historically is the crown or position of power a right or privilege? What exactly constitutes the mechanics of power ? Is there a dynamic in which the ruler agrees to rule and the people accept to be ruled ?  Is it a modified form of slavery in which you have no say in the extent of the power being wielded on your behalf ?  The mechanics of power is simple, the people’s acceptance of the ruler is the substrate in which they operate on. Minus that the ruler ceases to be legitimate. Ghaddafi , Mubarak,Nixon and countless rulers thru the ages have realized sadly and too late that their  power is based on the acceptance of the people.

Failure even in ancient times to realize this principle led to the fall of kings and emperors.  Kings like Charles the First were hanged a mile high as an example to the realm on what the abuse of power brings .

The pre-colonial blueprint for the West African sub-region by our colonial masters was a system that demanded for absolute subservient behavior . This was to ensure a smooth “slavery” of the people for their ruling pleasure. It was passed on to subsequent generations while the  country of origins of the colonial masters were going thru revolutions and upheavals that led to drastic reformation of their societies and their civilizations at large.

Now fast forward to this day and age , the uneducated moron still abides by the mentality passed onto us by our colonial masters which has led to the retrogression of our society based on one rule ” Oga can do no wrong”. Meanwhile in the land of our Colonial Masters the abusive ruler is quickly removed from office.

So let the Bat, not question the Hawk on the merits of his flight techniques because afterall the Bat only flies in the night ! Let nobody question a person on what has he done lately for Akwa Ibom State when he/she has done nothing lately for the state also. Thereby creating an atmosphere in which wrong doing cannot be scrutinized and questioned. Thereby creating a pseudo class of “untouchables” . Thereby creating the breakdown of law and order as we see in Nigeria because the whole land is infested with “untouchables” !

This principle was understood by the women involved in the 1929 Ikot Abasi riots. The system was betrayed by the Colonial Masters and consort of native chiefs working in tandem to produce an unnecessary burden on the people. The women reacted quickly even if their chiefs thought that the action of the Colonial Masters was ok.

Nowadays based on the utterances of certain individuals on the Internet we have men who are far weaker than these heroic women but they call themselves men. She-men who are swayed by every demonstration of power and administration no matter how negative and damning it is to the social fabric of the society. She-men whose greed is so intense that they do not have the bravery like true moral leaders and true rulers would, to question abnormalities like murder, kidnapping, looting, embezzlement and the defrauding of innocent members of Diaspora by organizations they belonged to (AIDN).

Let Bats not question Hawks anymore

Gov. Akpabio’s Hit Man Freed From Prison: Heads Roll in Ministry of Justice.

22 Feb

-Tension as DPP is Replaced
-The Details, Intrigues and Connivance

By Weekly Insight Newspapers.

The visit of the state Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Idongesit Ntem Isua, to Ikot Ikpene prison on January30, 2014 was part of her yearly routine inspection of prison formations in Akwa Ibom State.
On such visits, the Chief Judge usually extends prerogative of mercy to inmates based on the advice of the state Directorate for Public Prosecution (DPP). The Attorney General, through the DPP determines who should be prosecuted, and also who and when to discontinue prosecution based on the assessment of each case. Incidentally, this year’s release has raised serious questions begging for answers.
At Ikot Ekpene Prison on the said date, alongside other inmates who benefited from the prerogative of mercy, were six policemen awaiting trial for alleged murder of one Mr. Efremfon Abel Sunday in the early hours of August 30, 2013 (at about 2am).

Insp Sunny Tigidam, Sgt Ofonmbuk Okon, CPL Ephraim Joel, PC John Odoh, PC Idubor Osagie and PC Kufre Thomas were released because the PDP had declared on their advice papers endorsed by the Chief Judge, that they had no case to answer.
As soon as they stepped out of the confines of the beautiful prison the news went wild, the father of the deceased, Mr. Abel Sunday, got wind of it and raised alarm over the now controversial circumstances which led to their freedom.
Miffed by the turn of events, Mr. Abel Sunday Akpan, a civil servant who had before now been crying for justice, ran back to his counsel, Samuel Ikpo Esq. whose initial petition led to the arrest of the suspects by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Gwadabe, on the orders of the Inspector General of Police.
When confronted, Samuel Ikpo lamented that something must have gone wrong if the state can order the release of suspects whose primary constituency, the Nigeria Police Force, did not hesitate to deal with.
While commending the state commissioner of Police, the I. G Mr. M. D. Abubakar and the entire Nigeria police for dealing with the issue swiftly without attempting to protect the policemen, Ikpo explained that whoever is responsible for their release must explain how he or she arrived at the verdict of ‘no case to answer’ after the Police had tried and dismissed the suspects from the force.
The background story to the murder of Mr. Efremfon Abel Sunday, a driver and the first son in a family of ten children (7girls and 3boys) is as intriguing as it is interesting.
On the eve of August 29, 2013, Mr. Efremfon who was married with a son before his violent death, retired for the night, perhaps without premonition about the death lurking in his house.
This paper was informed that a team of policemen from Abak Division led by Insp. Sunday Tigidam invaded the victim’s residence in Ata Ediene Community at about 2am and forcefully gained entry into Efremfon’s rooms.
Claiming to act on an informant’s tip-off, tough struggle ensued as they attempted to arrest the deceased. At that point, neighbours who spoke to this paper on condition that their names should not be disclosed, alleged that the policemen use anything available including the butt of their guns to hit him all over the body consequent upon which he sustained internal injuries as contained in the autopsy report. They also confirmed that the victim’s manhood was pulled, a claim the pathologist who witnessed the autopsy later corroborated in a lengthy conversation with Weekend Insight.

After a long struggle, which alerted neighbours and relatives, they reportedly succeeded in taking him out of his house alive.
They left with Efremfon in the Toyota Hi-lux pick up van with registration number NPF 5123c driven by PC Kufre Thomas.
The brother to the deceased, Mr. Uwakmfon Abel Sunday shadowed the pick up on a Qlink motorcycle with one of the sister, Ikakke Sunday Abel, on the back. To avoid being noticed, they kept a safe distance while turning off the motorcycle’s headlamp.
On the way to Abak Police Station they allegedly stopped to further vent their anger on him, it was at this point that the brother and sister heard the shout of “they have pulled my manhood” many times before silence.
At Abak Police Station, the corpse of Efremfon was left in the back of the pick up outside, while the policemen who went on the operation entered the office, possibly to confer with superior(s) on how to handle the bad situation. Uwakmfon who had parked his motorcycle away from the station then sneaked in, only to feel his brother was now a lifeless body in the police vehicle outside.
At the mercy hospital Morge, the officers made frantic calls to the person in charge (name withheld) who was not around but assured that his apprentice will be sent to attend to them.
Our findings at Mercy Hospital Mortuary revealed a deliberate attempt by the suspects to cover their tract as they claimed on arrival that the victim was involved in an accident, and that they were merely assisting in evacuating his corpse.
When the morgue attendant demanded the identity of the policemen, Sgt Ofonmbuk Okon demoted himself and gave his name as CPL Okon Akpan which he wrote on a piece of paper to the attendant along with his real phone number[withheld]. It was the number which later gave him and his true identity away.
Again, this paper learnt that they claimed to have come from the state police headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.
On the strength of the petition dated September 3, 2013 directed to the Inspector General of Police-Mr. M.D. Abubakar, and signed by on Barr. Inimfon Edie in the chambers of Samuel Ikpo and company, Mr. Abubakar had seven days later, in a reply dated Sept. 10, 2013 and signed by one DCP Murtala U. Mani, Principal Staff Officer to the IG, directed the Akwa Ibom State commissioner of police, Mr. U. Gwadabe, to treat the matter.
The policemen were promptly arrested and detained at the state command headquarters as the incident was swiftly investigated. An orderly room trial was conducted and according to several sources at the police headquarters their men were dismissed while their case file was tidied and sent to the DPP for possible prosecution.
By November 11, 2013, the six accused appeared at the Abak magistrate court from where their remand was ordered. However, due to the demolition of the Abak prison building to make way for the new Bridge Constructed by Julius Berger PLC, the inmates including the six accused were transferred to the new Ikot Ekpene prison pending the constitution of a new prison for Abak.
At the AKS Judiciary headquarters, Wellington Bassey Way Uyo, a highly placed source explained that nobody can lay the blame of the suspect’s release on the State Chief Judge Since she lacks the power, on her own, to free anybody from prison custody. The procedure, according to our source who pleaded that his name should not be mentioned, is that the Attorney General as the Chief state prosecutor, through the DPP advices in writing, as in the instant case, about who should be freed and who should not.
Weekend Insight met the Hon. Attorney General, Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim at the Ministry of Justice headquarters, Idongesit Nkanga secretariat, on Monday February 10, 2014. The Attorney General had promised to speak on the issue the following day at noon.
By the time the whole week ran out without locating the AG, it became clear that the seeming harmless demand on Monday to know if he (the AG) has granted press interview before, may have been a subtle way to point out that he intends to continue the tradition of not responding to enquiries on important state issues, no matter how topical it is.
But our investigations in the ministry of justice uncovered the fact that the embarrassing incident has jolted the top echelon of the ministry. A very dependable source who demanded and extracted assurance that his name will not be disclosed said authoritatively that the Attorney General had on Tuesday February 11, 2014 called for the file and canceled the release advice, ordering the re-arrest of the suspects and their subsequent arraignment within 24 hours, a tall order indeed.
As at the time of filing this report, Weekend Insight could not confirm the arrest or arraignment of any of the suspects. Somehow, recent events in the Ministry of Justice tended to indicate that the issue may claim victims, however remotely connected to the embarrassing incident, they may be.
In fact, as at last Tuesday, there was a minor shake up in the department handling public prosecution as the acting director, was replaced by one Usen.
These changes, our source confided, may not be unconnected to the advice which resulted in freedom for the six accused. The most worrisome aspect of the entire saga is the allegation by Mr. Abel Sunday, who claimed to have reliable information that the wife of one of the suspects sold a parcel of land which proceeds was used in an alleged bribery to secure their freedom.
Counsel to Mr. Abel Sunday, it was learnt, had petitioned the Attorney General on the behavior of the state counsel.
Meanwhile, the village head of Atta Ediene Abak where the Abel’s family hails from Eteidung Okon Thompson Akpan and members of his village council, had harrowing experiences to narrate when this paper visited the Ata Ediene village on Sunday February 16, 2014 as part of the investigation into the murder.
Eteidung Okon Thompson Akpan, who is more than 70 years was arrested alongside other members of his council and detained for more than six days at the state police command headquarters in Uyo.
At Ikot Ikpan Abia, they were brought before the 6 suspects who did not mention any of the arrested members of the village as the source of information which led to the arrest and death of Mr. Efremfon Abel, yet according to them, they were only released on bail after a strongly worded petition addressed to Compol Gwadabe from Nwoko and company, demanding that the police disclose their informant to which they refused.
Apparently their freedom despite the petition, they narrated, was allegedly secured after parting with thousands of naira. The fall out is that the police will now contend with a multimillion naira fundamental rights suit at Abak High Court. The Suit, as stated in the petition signed by one Barr. Utibe Nwoko, also seeks to compel the police to disclose their informant, to save their clients from the wrath of the community. Although the incident which brought the police into the picture was said to have arisen from the community’s electrification project, many respondents to our finding say they did not know him to be a robber, but a very stubborn person.
As the entire situation stands now, even the attempt by the state Ministry of Justice to undo what has already be done may create more legal huddles to surmount.
